  • The difference between each type of marine battery

    • Marine Starting Batteries - designed to start the engine and be rapidly recharged by the alternator using lots of power in a short period of time.  Not to be used for powering appliances.
    • Marine Deep Cycle Batteries - designed to power an electric trolling motor and other battery-powered accessories (audio systems, a windlass, depth finders, fish locators, and appliances). They discharge slowly over a long period of time and to withstand several hundred charging and discharging cycles. 
    • Marine Dual-Purpose Batteries - a combination of the other two types of marine batteries.  Ideal when there's no room for the second battery. They're not as efficient as each separate battery (starting and deep cycle).
