Off-Grid Ready: Dual Battery and Solar Install for 200 Series Landcruiser

Do you need reliable power for your 12V fridge while camping in your 200 Series Landcruiser? Here's a dual battery setup we recently installed that gives you, the driver, independence for extended stays off the grid.

We installed an under-bonnet dual battery system featuring a REDARC BCDC charger with solar control capabilities. For the second battery, we chose a Delkor 100 amp hour deep cycle battery. This high performance battery can handle the frequent charge and discharge cycles of camping use.

To harness our Australian sun, we fitted a 190-watt solar panel to the Rhino roof rack. This panel feeds directly into the REDARC controller, keeping your auxiliary battery topped up while you're stationary at camp.

The system powers a 12-volt portable fridge in the rear of the vehicle. By running your fridge off the auxiliary battery, you can keep your food and drinks cold without the risk of draining your main starting battery - a common concern for many 4WD owners.
